Simhachalam
Simhachalam or Simhadri is a hill Temple located about 16 km north from Visakhapatnam city. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu God Narasimha or Vishnu. The temple was constructed by Gajapathi Kings of Orissa before 15th century.
Kailasagiri Hill
Kailasagiri Hill gives you a spectacular view of the sea, Ramakrishna Beach (RK Beach) and Rishikonda Beach (100 meters from GITAM Main gate). Visitors often fall in love with the city especially after visiting the Hill. This is located at a distance of about 8 km from GITAM campus.
Ross Hill
Ross Hill is an area where three different religious places situated on three hill tops. It is named after Monsieur Ross who built his house on the hill in 1864.It has been converted into a Chapel Mother Mary's Church.
Thotlakonda
Thotlakonda is a Buddhist Complex situated near Chepaluppada Village at about 6 kms from GITAM Campus. The hill, about 128 meters (420 ft) above sea level, depicts the influence of Buddhism during ancient Kalinga. Thotlakonda is a Telugu name derived from the presence of a series of cisterns cut into the rock, embedded in the hill.
Yarada Beach
Yarada Beach is located at a distance of 15 kms from Visakhapatnam in Yarada village. It is nestled between lush green hills, and exotic coastline of the Bay of Bengal. The beach is a magnificent spot to have a merry time with family.
Ramakrishna Beach (RK Beach)
Ramakrishna Beach (RK Beach), located at a distance of 4 km from Visakhapatnam Railway Station, is a spectacular long beach on the Bay of Bengal. The Beach gets its name from the Ramakrishna Mission ashram across the Beach Road. It is one of the prime attractions of Vizag. This beach occupying massive elements of the seafront is a great spot to spend time leisurely.
Bheemunipatnam (Bheemili)
Bheemunipatnam (Bheemili) is in the suburban area of Visakhapatnam located about 15 km from GITAM. It is named after lord Bhima. October to March would be the ideal time to visit Bheemili beach, when the weather is pleasant with temperatures ranging from 15 to 30 degrees Celsius.
Indira Gandhi Zoological Park
Indira Gandhi Zoological Parkis located near Kambalakonda, about 5 kms from GITAM. It is the 3rd Largest Zoo in the country. It covers an area of 625 acres surrounded by Easter Ghats on three sides and the Bay of Bengal on the other. There are Eighty Species of mammals, birds and reptiles in the Zoological Park, more than 800 animals in number.
Araku Valley
Araku Valley is the best tourist spot located about 112 km from Vizag(six hours journey by train or bus). You can book a rest house constructed by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC)in advance for night stay. Padmavathi botanical gardens are the major attraction in Araku Valley
Borra Caves or Borra Guhalu
Borra Caves or Borra Guhalu, located in the Ananthagiri hills of Araku Valley, are the largest caves in the country, at an elevation of about 705 m. Borra Caves are known for their unique formation of stalactites and stalagmites. Calcium deposits in the form of rocks, that make the caves a Natural Wonder.
